Racial Equity Report Card

Racial Equity Report Card

In collaboration with the Polis Center at Indiana University Indianapolis, the InfoGraphics Lab has produced the Racial Equity Report Card, an online tool designed to highlight racial disparity and inequity in the city of Indianapolis.

The Report Card is guided by a fundamental question: “How is Indianapolis doing?” It aims to answer this question using an interactive study of how Indianapolis compares to fifty peer cities in over thirty indicators across themes such as Health, Economy, Housing, and Education. For each thematic area, the report includes one key indicator of equity, followed by several indicators that are considered drivers of the key indicator. Maps and charts for each indicator are accompanied by a ranking method that places this data in context and invites further exploration into positively trending cities for racial equity. A focus on “closing the gap” guides current and future design considerations, ultimately creating an accessible and data-rich tool that positively impacts the community. The Report Card is an empowering means for local stakeholders to make actionable, informed decisions that can improve racial equity in Indianapolis and beyond.

The InfoGraphics Lab has contributed to aspects of data collection, data analysis, graphic design, and website development.
